‍There is a legendary hero praised in Los Angeles. Take a look around and you will notice multiple paintings on the cityscape of this influential figure: Kobe Bryant, also known as “The Black Mamba”.

Along Hope Street is a narrow courtyard behind a green fence, tucked in next to the California Children's Academy day care. With its colorful mural, landscaping, and outdoor seating, it looks a little like a pocket park. It wasn’t designed by a landscape architect. It was designed by teenagers. It's called the Breezeway, and it belongs to Kid City Hope Place.

There is understandably a lot of confusion as to how to use the various government/neighborhood phone numbers when we want to report something or obtain information.

The annual USC effect came and went again this year. As expected, leasing activity picked up in the spring before slowing as students settled in for the fall semester. Historically, that demand spills over into condo sales as well, but this year buyers largely stayed on the sidelines.

uly was an exciting milestone for our community. We officially launched the Parents of South Park, a grassroots initiative focused on supporting local families, creating resource-sharing networks, and identifying neighborhood infrastructure gaps.

‍ If you've walked down 11th Street over the past year or so, you've probably wondered about the storefront under construction with big signs for Sugar Sugar™. Behind those doors is a beautiful new clean beauty day spa that's bringing organic sugaring, custom airbrush tanning, and facials to South Park. Even better, it's being opened by two of our own neighbors.

If you're a regular at Ideology or Awesome Coffee, you've probably walked past Nifemi Aluko working from his laptop. The work happening on that laptop has led to five books, a weekly newsletter, and a business helping founders tell better stories.

Our landmark mural “Defend Dignity” has been restored and is once again shining its light on the neighborhood!

A wonderful afternoon was held in the neighborhood at the Summer Bazaar Market hosted by SPNA  and Makers Market – Just Buy The Thing on Sunday, June 7 in Wishbone Park (on Grand Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets). 

At first glance, this may seem like an issue happening outside of South Park. Historic Broadway lies just a couple of blocks outside our neighborhood. But for many South Park residents, Broadway is part of daily life.

‍ If you noticed an influx of energy at Sunday’s Summer Bazaar at Wishbone Park, you likely ran into our neighborhood’s newest grassroots initiative,  a group of local parents discussing the unique realities of raising children in South Park.  

Local dog walking/training service FitPals LA (https://www.fitpalsla.com) held a huge neighborhood dog walking event and breakfast at Toastique several Sundays ago. The community dog walk, a monthly event held on Saturdays at local sponsors’ establishments, brings dogs and their owners together for a guided hike through DTLA to a location where participants are treated to a brief training session and then a return trip to enjoy a great breakfast.

A brief survey to help gauge community interest and gather feedback regarding LA28 preparation and engagement opportunities has been prepared by SPNA.

SPNA has a new Instagram Address!

  In four months, voters will choose who leads California for the next four years. This article will share the results and the choices on the November ballot and then provide five takeaways from the state-wide elections. 

The results from the June 2, Los Angeles primary election have been certified, setting the stage for a general election in November with a historic mayoral runoff and major shakeups in key city offices. The election underscored a growing political tug-of-war between L.A.’s center-left Democratic establishment and the progressive movement.  

There is a new coffee establishment in the neighborhood!  Fica Fica Coffee DTLA is located on Pico, mid-block between Hope Street and Grand Ave.  The clean, modern but somewhat sparce shop offers comfort and privacy to patrons as well as a multi-varied menu of creative coffee and tea drinks.
