Race for the Rescues Happening Saturday, November 19, 2022

Among the most visible organizations at last Sunday’s SPNA Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade was Race for the Rescues, an animal welfare organization that sponsors the annual Race for the Rescues in Los Angeles and Orange County. Race for the Rescues is a day when animal lovers of all ages run, walk, or adopt – to help save the lives of homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, horses and farm animals in Southern California. This is a fundraiser where 100% of the net proceed go to local animal welfare organizations. The race is a timed sporting event featuring a mixture of serious athletes and people who just want to come out and walk, with or without their dog, to help support the benefiting organizations.

Who Says What in the LA City Controller November Race

The heat is on for the LA City Controller’s race on the November ballot. The LA Times endorsed Kenneth Mejia for the June primary but has not endorsed anyone for the general election in November. A former LA City Controller wrote against Mejia while other past Controllers have supported Paul Kortez. Below is information from endorsements for both candidates. General supervision over the accounts of all officers and departments of the City, including the independent departments of Airports, Water and Power, and Harbor. Under the Charter all City payments must be approved by the City Controller.

Breaking Down California’s Composting Law

California’s goal is to compost 75% of organic waste by 2025.
