Throw Clay Fall Member’s Market
Throw Clay artisans display their work and the annual sale
Throw Clay Pottery Studio on Olive at Olympic is a space offering a continuum of opportunities for people interested in “throwing a pot.” Options include a one-time potter’s wheel class, a six-week introductory course or six-week continuing course, and hosting a private hands-on event. But also, there is a membership level at Throw Clay.
If interested in becoming a member, requirements include having previous pottery experience (which you can get by signing up for a class at Throw Clay), able to work independently, having the ability to make, trim, and glaze without instruction, and being over 18 years of age.
Membership benefits include unlimited open studio use seven days a week during extended member hours, private shelf space to store tools and creations, discounts on studio courses, free member clinics on a variety of topics, social afternoon and evening events, and the annual studio sale event dedicated to member wares.
Last week, Throw Clay members held their annual studio sale. South Park residents were able to purchase pottery and converse with individual artists. Each piece is unique, one-of-a-kind, and the product of an artist or budding artist. The works varied from practical use items – cups and bowls to artistic expressions – sculptures and statues. The photos tell the story!
I speak from experience when I suggest you try out the one-time potter’s wheel class to learn if you have the interest in pursuing creating art. The class was fun and enlightening regarding my artistic abilities or lack thereof. But I have two pieces I proudly use and display.
Check out their website for classes - www.throwclayla.com. Try it – you may like it. And next year you can be sharing your creations with the neighborhood!
