One of the best parts of parenting in South Park is having so much of downtown right in our backyard. Whether you have an hour before naptime or a full weekend afternoon to fill, there are plenty of incredible, kid-friendly spots within easy reach.
This month, South Park parent Nicole Dimitrius shared her family’s favorite go-to routines and local field trips:
· Bites, Treats and Exploring: Grab lunch at Grand Central Market, then head right across Hill Street for a quick, historic ride up the hill on Angels Flight. Over in the Arts District, pair a visit to the Arts District Park with coffee at Urth Caffé, or swing by Salt & Straw for ice cream before wandering through Manuela’s garden courtyard to see the resident chickens.
· Music and Performing Arts: Explore early childhood music and dance programs down the street at the Colburn School on Bunker Hill, or check the L.A. Phil’s schedule at Walt Disney Concert Hall for family concerts like Symphonies for Youth.
· E Line to Exposition Park: Hop on Metro’s E Line right at Pico station for a direct ride to the Expo Park/USC stop. It drops you right near the Natural History Museum and the California Science Center (home to a 3D IMAX theater). On USC home football game days, it’s also a fun way to catch the Spirit of Troy marching band, just be prepared for game-day crowds!
