Just Food For Dogs - is Just the Food for Your Dog

Just Food for Dogs (JFFD) was created ten years ago by Sean Buckley who wanted to transform the lives of dogs through scientifically backed, fresh, “human-grade” nutrition.  A decade of university-led independent research has resulted in a menu offering for your dog that will promote healthy digestion, support skin and coat health, and immune function health. A healthy diet will ensure a longer, healthier, happier life for your dog.

Sean was convinced that getting away from unnatural kibble fillers that were fed to dogs with little thought to nourishment would promote longevity and immune health.  Through concise studies he proved that providing “human grade foods” to his canine subjects resulted in theirr white blood cell counts skyrocking! Thus, a better way to feed our pups was born.

I recently spoke with Misty Salan, lead Nutrition Consultant at JFFD’s DTLA store at 333 S. Spring St.  She began working at the company six years ago when she recognized the benefits of the JFFD diet for her dog.  She felt her dog was one of her family members and  should be fed as well as the rest of her family!

Misty told me that JFFD has become a relatively large company with many food kitchens and retail locations throughout Southern California.  In addition, the company has New York and Chicago kitchen facilities and several retail locations in each city.  They currently market their products through stand-alone JFFD branded stores and through Petco, PetSmart, Pet Food Express, Costco, and many Vons food stores in Los Angeles and San Diego so it should be easy for everyone to stock up!  They will also gladly deliver their products same day directly to your door if you’d like!

Misty feels that dog owners should all question what they put in their dogs’ bowls every day and wonder if they are inherently shorting their best friends.  The normal kibble you find on store shelves from big name corporations is essentially carbohydrate that is produced for human convenience and ease and not for canine nourishment.  “Most kibbles have a lot of sugar that leads to tooth decay and digestive problems in many dogs.  If we are to be good parents to our dogs, we must question what we are giving them.”  If you are going to continue with the dry food routine, she argues you should consider mixing in some Just Food For Dogs to increase the nourishment of each meal.  “All of our food is cooked and comes in frozen packages.  Adding a little JFFD can really up the nourishment content of a dog’s meal.”

They have many varied meal menu plans.  One of these is their Beef and Russet Potato Menu which combines ground beef, russet potatoes, sweet potato, peas, green beans, and apples.  There are other menu plans that include fish, pork, chicken, or rice with similar ingredients.  There is also a dry nutrient blend powder that can be sprinkled on any food bowl to juice up its nutritional value.  If you are more a “do-it-yourself type,” JFFD can provide you with an ingredient list that you can purchase at the grocery store and prepare in your own kitchen that will consider your specific dog’s age, breed, weight, and special needs. To benefit from this service, you can meet with a company nutritionist and work out a diet plan that specifically meets the needs of your dog.  Is Fido a little on the heavy side?  Does he scratch his itchy coat all the time?  Just Food For Dogs can design a diet that fixes that.

This premium diet regime will cost you a little more than a bag of kibble, but considering how much your four-legged friend means to you, isn’t it 100% worth it if you can be sure he or she is getting the very best meal for their health and happiness?  Oh yes, don’t forget to consider Just Food For Dogsfor your cat.  They have a plan or two for cats too!
