Hidden Away, The Hideout Salon
As the name suggests, the Hideout hair salon is a charming oasis “hidden” in the back of one of the buildings at the intersection of Spring and Main (833 S. Spring St. Unit 101). You may have met them at the Taste of South Park event in September. I had the pleasure of visiting the salon for a haircut and a chat with owners Stef and Angela.
While talking about their impressive amount of experience (20+ years each!) there is a simultaneous side conversation happening with a male client about the current football score. As it turns out, the two business partners bonded over their love of sports many years ago. They are both huge football fans, and Stef really enjoys hockey. They took over the salon from the original owners a little over two years ago but also helped open the original space in 2020. They had just opened a salon in West Hollywood, when the opportunity for the downtown location came along, and they couldn’t pass it up. They have both lived or worked in DTLA for over 14 years!
A first-time client, I had a cut scheduled that day with Daniel. Daniel himself has the most amazing hair ever, and a wealth of experience, so I was certain I’d be in good hands. We discussed the type of cut I was hoping for and he lent his expert advice on what would work best for me. I learned about his career thus far and that many of his clients followed him when he moved to the Hideout, a testimony to his craft. He’s a local resident as well. After a wash, the final cut, and styling I loved the results! My hair feels lighter and healthier and I can style and wear it in many ways. If you’re looking for a stylist, I can’t recommend him enough.
The salon currently has 12 stylists. In addition to cuts and color, they offer eyebrow lamination and waxing, as well as lash tints. They host monthly appointment-based events offering Botox, filler, microneedling, and chemical peels. The space is also available to rent for film shoots and commercials.
You can book online and check them out on Instagram and give them a follow @thehideoutsalon.dtla.
