DTLA Recovery NOW - We Need Your Voice!
DTLA RA (Downtown Los Angeles Residents Association) is championing the recovery of downtown LA. Downtown vibrancy, development, and activity were on the rise before COVID. During COVID workers left downtown and have not returned to the rate before COVID. With that, residents moved out, businesses left or failed. It is time to bring back downtown LA and its growth back NOW.
SPNA (South Park Neighborhood Association) is working with DTLA RA on this cause. We need your voice to convince elected officials that downtown needs their attention.
Join us at City Hall on Tuesday, September 10:00 AM (Economic Development Committee) and Wednesday, September 3 at 3:30 PM (Public Safety Committee)! See below for more information from DTLA RA.
From DTLA RA:
We’re making important progress on the road to DTLA recovery and securing the public safety and economic recovery actions you helped us identify through our recent resident survey that are outlined in this collective letter we sent to Mayor Bass and Council Member Ysabel Jurado on August 19.
We’ve had the chance to talk to the Mayor’s Deputy of Public Safety, Robert Clark, and City Council Member Ysabel Jurado and her team. They seem open to working with the community on some kind of recovery plan, which is a good sign.
We don’t have commitments and clarity on what they will be willing to support to help downtown recover and thrive and when they will be willing to do it.
That’s why we need to keep the momentum going to ensure that they are hearing directly from folks who live downtown and run businesses downtown.
We have a major chance to build pressure, momentum, and act as a united community so we can secure commitments for action from the Mayor’s team and City Council District 14.
Here’s how you can help:
DTLA Recovery Next Steps: Join Us at City Hall on September 2 or 3
The Los Angeles City Council will hold its regular committee meetings this week, and it’s a chance for us to elevate downtown’s most pressing issues—public safety and economic recovery. We’re heading to City Hall on Tuesday, September 2 at 2:00 PM (Economic Development Committee) and Wednesday, September 3 at 3:30 PM (Public Safety Committee) and we need you to join us!
We’re inviting residents, business owners, and DTLA community stakeholders to testify and ensure our lived experiences shape the city’s decisions. Together, we can push for resident-prioritized solutions like foot beat patrols, mental health interventions, expedited business permitting, and more.
Sign up today to confirm your spot, get help with talking points, and join us in showing city leaders that DTLA needs bold action now. Our goal is to gather 50 downtown advocates each day.
On top of that, it’s likely that the City Council Economic Development Committee will also take a major vote on the Convention Center project on Tuesday — a project we officially support and that is mission-critical for downtown recovery. We’d love for you to join and voice your support on the solutions in the letter and the Convention Center if you can.
