Support crime data and extra security for only $10
SPNA’s LynxEye initiative is requesting support from HOAs, residential buildings, and businesses. The test pilot aims to establish a network of external-facing cameras and security patrol to aid in crime prevention, collect data on crime, and enhance safety for residents and employees. The pilot will be implemented in a specific area with defined objectives, and if it demonstrates effectiveness, it may be considered for broader application in South Park and potentially serve as a model for other districts within DTLA.
The SPNA Security Committee has secured a financial commitment of at least $15,000 from The Social District, with the total projected cost for the pilot project estimated at approximately $50,000. SPNA believes that these costs should be shared among residents, local businesses, and The Social District. The committee has presented the proposed plan to six HOAs as well as businesses within the designated test area, receiving positive feedback and support for the initiative.
Ten50 and Grand Lofts are the first HOA boards to approve and commit to a contribution of $10 per unit for the pilot program. SPNA is seeking similar commitments from the remaining HOA boards.
While securing funding, SPNA is also gathering information on existing camera models and their locations within the area. Additionally, SPNA has interviewed three third-party security camera companies and reached a verbal agreement with one which can provide a command center solution. Although the LAPD has announced plans to introduce its own camera program in DTLA, the timeline remains uncertain. It appears their focus is primarily on violent crimes that do not include nuisance issues such as graffiti, theft, drug activity, and minor assaults that we see in the neighborhood.
The anticipated cost for the 60-day pilot program, including educational components and signage, is approximately $50,000. We encourage you to advocate for this initiative by urging your HOA board, employer, and property management to support SPNA in advancing community safety.
