Arriving, Coming, Going, Staying, Building, in South Park

Look around and what do you see? Here are some neighborhood updates.

Arriving – Toastique

Opening day for Toastique was February 7, and the neighborhood turned out. Lines of people ran around the building and down the alley as they patiently waited for toasts,  coffee, and juices. Download the app at www.toastique.com and be rewarded – a free juice on tap with any $10+ purchase, $10 reward dollars for every $100 spent, and a free smoothie on your birthday.

Coming – Olive and 12 (222. W. 12th)

Did you notice the structure at the corner of Olive and 12th is no more? The building was demolished, although part of the building had already been destroyed in a fire. But now the lot is cleared and ready for development.

A revised 2023 plan calls for an eight-story, 106-foot-tall building with 405 apartments and 8,700 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, replacing a previously planned 16-story tower.

Going – 2 CVS stores

The second CVS in South Park at Broadway and Olympic has closed. Previously the CVS at Pico Station closed. The CVS closures in South Park were part of a nationwide strategy to address high rent, increased theft, and reduced foot traffic due to online shopping. South Park residents noticed the number of items behind locked doors recently which slowed the shopping experience and reduced their support.  Most residents queried did say they  like shopping in stores for specific products and pharmacy items. So, check out the next update!

Staying – South Park Pharmacy

With the closure of two CVS stores, remember we do have a pharmacy in close by.  South Park Pharmacy at the corner of Grand and 12th  has a pharmacist on duty, fills prescriptions, accepts insurance, and has emplyees  ready to answer your questions. In addition, South Park Pharmacy has health, beauty, and personal products as well as wine, snacks, basic grocery goods, curated gifts and cards, and a café with coffees and food including breakfast items, hot panini choices, and more. So much you can find at South Park Pharmacy1

Progressing – Oceanwide

The short update is that at the most recent bankruptcy court hearing in early February, the parties involved including all creditors, have settled on a distribution agreement. That means a potential buyer can now purchase the property without worry that the sale would be subject to an array of lawsuits by the creditors fighting for their share.

This is good news if a buyer is out there. We hear there are a couple of credible buyers BUT how many times have we heard that to no avail. Stay tuned! This is good news which hopefully turns into great, amazing, fantastic news!

Progressing – Convention Center Expansion

Design of the LA Convention Center Expansion is on display at the site. Here is a look at the future expansion.
