Susan Shum, Chief, Chair, Friend of South Park
Susan Shum, the new Chair of the South Park Bid
I would like to introduce you to Susan Shum who is the newly elected Chair of the South Park (now known as the Social District) Business Improvement District Board (SPBID), the Chief Philanthropy Officer for Dignity Health California Hospital Medical Center in South Park, and a friend of South Park Neighborhood Association (SPNA). Susan involves herself in neighborhood events, supports local businesses, and promotes the walkability of the area.
Susan (second from right) leads a tour of South Park residents through the new tower under construction at Dignity Health California Hospital and Medical Center. The tower is now open, and South Park Residents were treated to another tour with a behind the scenes look at the cutting edge facility,
Susan has been at California Hospital for 25 years! She has supported SPNA in growing our neighborhood since the beginning days of our organization. California Hospital has participated in A Taste of South Park each year, held two Stop the Bleed training sessions, and an Ask the Doctor event with SPNA, as well as attending many other neighborhood events.
When Susan started working at California Hospital 25 years ago, the hospital was surrounded by vacant lots. Most of her colleagues drove in, stayed on campus, and ate lunch in the cafeteria. Now more staff are venturing off campus and supporting local businesses.
Susan (left) participates in a “Stop the Bleed” training for South Park residents at EVO by Dignity Health staff. Two of these training sessions have been held. Knowing that a person can bleed out in 2 minutes, learning to stop the bleed is an important skill!
Susan encourages residents to participate in the neighborhood as well. She believes having a safe and clean neighborhood is a must and the more people on the street the safer the neighborhood.
Susan was born in Torrance; after spending a short time in Japan with her family, she returned to the San Gabriel Valley. She is an Angeleno. Look for Susan in the neighborhood!
