Security in South Park, LynxEye with Security Patrols
South Park is set to launch a two-month pilot of LynxEye, a resident-driven CCTV pilot with security patrols to enhance neighborhood safety. Nolan Marshall, Executive Director of The Social District, has committed to fund one-third to one-half of the $50,000 budget. The project awaits essential funding from participating Homeowners’ Associations (HOAs) and local businesses.
The name LynxEye was chosen for its symbolism. The lynx, a nocturnal wildcat, is known for its exceptional vision, especially in the dark. Similarly, the LynxEye system aims to be a discreet, watchful presence, fostering security while respecting privacy. The project's promise is: “See More. Worry Less.”
60 Day Test District Boundaries
LynxEye, led by the South Park Neighborhood Association (SPNA), with sponsorship from The Social District (SPBID) and local HOAs, will use existing AI-equipped cameras across the pilot project (see map). These cameras will monitor activity with the aim to deter crime and support rapid response. The 60-day pilot will focus on real-time protection with two security guards and a security car patrolling at night, privacy-conscious monitoring, and a streamlined reporting system via an app. The pilot will provide data, fully access the needs of the neighborhood, and test processes and procedures.
Community support is crucial. Each HOA/residential building in the pilot is invited to contribute $10 per unit for the two-month pilot, designate a building liaison for the project, and identify priority locations for camera installation. SPBID has pledged significant backing, highlighting the collective commitment to the neighborhood’s well-being.
With major events like the Olympics, the Paralympic Games, World Cup, and Concacaf approaching, now is the time to invest in a scalable, community-governed security solution that enhances peace of mind without compromising privacy or trust.
SPNA has begun the process of linking existing cameras for monitoring while working on obtaining sufficient funds for the pilot project. Residents are encouraged to share questions or feedback with their HOA boards or SPNA representatives and to spread the word about the pilot’s vision for a safer, smarter community. The 4th Annual Neighborhood Night Out on August 5 from 6-9 pm at Audio Graph will have information and SPNA members will be there to answer your questions.
Together, we can make LynxEye a reality and take a proactive step toward a more secure and safe South Park.
