Recall Petition of de Leon Falls Short of Goal

Recall Petition of de Leon Falls Short of Goal

SPNA did acquire signatures from 59% of South Park voters in the last election. We heard your voice - you want a Councilmember who  represents all people in the district, believes in inclusion of all, interested in more than political power, works for downtown LA and not just to get elected to the next office, and has the trust of CD14 residents as well as the other members of the LA City Council.

The petition recall process was hindered by the weather since the start of the petition drive in December. Door to door canvasing in Boyle Heights, Eagle Rock, El Sereno, Lincoln Heights, and Monterey Hills was cancelled many days due to rain in the area. Downtown LA experienced 24.08 inches of rain this season. There were 28 days of rain. None of that helped the door-to-door efforts.

The next step is the CD 14 election in 2024. The deadline for filing is November 11, 2023. Kevin de León has not filed yet. Nick Pacheco, who served on the City Council two decades ago and attorney Ysabel Jurado have filed. The field is expected to grow considerably. We will keep you updated!
