Raising Kids in South Park: Neighborhood Adventures

‍ ‍One of the best parts of raising kids in South Park is that family outings don't require packing up the car for a long trip across town. Whether it’s a morning at Grand Hope Park, catching a Sparks game at Crypto, or a short walk up Grand, living downtown gives our kids a front-row seat to a host of unique spaces and experiences. ‍ ‍

This month, we’re spotlighting a creative new spot just a short stroll, or Metro ride, away: DATALAND.

Spotlight: DATALAND

Located  near The Broad and Disney Concert Hall, DATALAND is the world’s first museum dedicated to AI art. While an "AI art museum" might sound grown-up, local parent Guzel Delmont recommends it as a perfect outing for families:

The South Park Connection

What makes visiting extra special for families is that its roots are tied to our own streets. Long before opening DATALAND, artist Refik Anadol was testing these giant visual ideas right on our South Park buildings during LUMINEX: 

·       2021: Wind of Los Angeles projected onto 1066 S. Hope Street

·       2022: Interactive light installations at 1119 S. Olive Street

·       2024: California Landscapes at 208 W. 11th Street 

It’s pretty special that our kids can see an artist who used South Park walls as his canvas now hosting a permanent museum up the street.
