Oscar is Moving to LA Live!
Some rather earthshaking Hollywood news has just been announced! After 20 years at the Dolby Theater on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Academy Awards ceremony (AKA – The Oscars) will move to the Peacock Theater in LA Live. Oscar will stay in Hollywood for only two more presentations as the momentous move is executed and the run at the Peacock will start with the 101st Academy Awards ceremony in 2029. The committment to the new location in our neighborhood runs through 2039.
The exclusive deal was just inked between the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and South Park neighborhood entertainment giant AEG. In recent years, the Peacock Theater has become the premier destination of many entertainment-related events including the Emmys, the BET Awards, the American Music Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards. Now LA Live Plaza and The Yard House will become the home of the iconic Oscars red carpet. Also big news: The Academy Awards, televised for years by ABC television, will be carried exclusively, beginning with the 2028 move, by YouTube and broadcast world-wide, further spotlighting our neighborhood to the world!
For years, major entertainment hallmarks associated with Los Angeles have been the Academy Awards, Hollywood and Vine, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With this exciting move, LA Live and the South Park/Social District will take up the banner as the center of the world entertainment industry. With the completion of Oceanwide Towers and the expanded Convention Center and international attention from the coming Olympics/Paralympics, I am excited to predict we will find ourselves residing in an absolutely world class, exclusive location. Paris, London, New York...South Park!
