Open Board Position, South Park Neighborhood Association (SPNA)-- Are You Interested?
Are you interested in volunteering to build community, support our local businesses, and advocate for the South Park neighborhood? If so, please consider applying for an open seat on the SPNA Board.
SPNA is an all-volunteer 501(c)4 whose mission is to build community, support our local businesses, and advocate for the neighborhood.
SPNA has a seven-person board. The qualifications to serve on the board are: reside or work within SPNA’s boundaries (from the 110 to the 10 to Broadway to 9th Street), attend monthly board meetings in person or remotely, be responsible for heading a committee, and support the mission of SPNA as stated in the first sentence. The board meets once a month on the second Thursday of the month.
The work of SPNA includes: (1) organizing social events for the neighborhood including A Taste of South Park the last Saturday of September, Neighborhood Night Out which is this Tuesday, and Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume event, plus activities with Dignity Health California Hospital and markets in Wishbone Park or on Audio Graph’s patio, all while promoting South Park businesses, (2) advocacy on such issues as Oceanwide, Hope Street fires, Convention Center expansion, street lighting for downtown, and additional security measures for the neighborhood; and (3) communication with residents and stakeholders through such mechansims as the monthly newsletter, The Scene, social media to inform residents and support the neighborhood, and a monthly SPNA meeting for all to join on the third Tuesday of the month.
The SPNA board selection process for interested candidates includes completing a short application form available by emailing spnadtla@gmail.com with a due date of Tuesday, August 25; an informal meet with SPNA selection committee members; and final approval by the full board on Thursday, September 10.
