Oceanwide Ad Hoc Committee: Moving Forward
South Park residents answered the call in last month’s newsletter to put Oceanwide back on everyone’s agenda by acting on a resolution. Eight neighbors with experience in law, development, business, and communication met to begin the work.
The committee’s first action step is gathering more information related to the bankruptcy filings, updates, the trustee, and potential buyers. In addition, a meeting with CD 14 staff about their role was initiated last week.
The committee is asking the city to restore the street and sidewalk access around Oceanwide in an effort to return public space back to its original use. The graffiti on Oceanwide was to be removed by the developer by February 17, 2024, by action of the LA City Council. That did not happen. According to a news report by ABC Channel 7, LA’s Office of Community Beautification said, “It was decided that the City should not incur the cost for abatement of graffiti on this privately-owned building.” The committee has many questions to ask.
