Exciting News! Erewhon Groceries is Coming to the Neighborhood

      Erewhon was founded in the Boston area almost 50 years ago by the husband and wife team of Aveline and Michio Kushi.  Inspired by their belief that what we eat shapes who we are, they founded the first natural foods store in the country.  The stores now fill a niche market on the luxury end for grocery markets and offer a unique blend of natural and certified organic foods and branded private products.  In addition to their grocery operation, the company offers catering and in-store eating opportunities.  Erewhon will be a welcome addition to our neighborhood!

       In a recent Downtown Los Angeles CRE Market Update Event hosted by Bisnow, Erewhon Chief Development officer Yuval Chiprut confirmed that, after a long search for a new Los Angeles location, they have purchased a property in South Park at 940 South Hill Street, directly across Olympic from the recently completed Olympic and Hill apartment property. 

The site is currently occupied by a 24,000 square foot parking structure which will be demolished and redeveloped into the Erewhon retail store plus leasable space for another tenant.  The new location will be the fifteenth location for the Los Angeles-based chain.  Multiple other locations are in the pipeline with the next stores in the chain opening soon in Glendale, West Hollywood, and Thousand Oaks.  A store in Manhattan Beach recently opened as the first such store in the South Bay area.

       Chiprut did not specify an opening date at the Bisnow event but stated the normal time for completion of a new location is between one-and-a-half and two years.  They are currently waiting for the completion of environmental reviews; Chiprut estimates they are three to four months  from a finalized development plan.  Hopefully, we will have our new Erewhon store by 2027.
