Bark if You Loved DTLA DOG DAY!
It was a spectacular Southern California afternoon – not too hot, not to cool, just right. So… Enid and I decided to take our live-in family members Noodle and Elizbeth on a stroll to see what was happening at DTLA DOG DAY in the beautiful McGuire Gardens on the Flower Street side of the LA Public Library. This once-a-year Dog Expo is produced by DTLA Alliance and definitely did not disappoint!
Present were vendors and dog-centric activities galore. Everyone seemed to be having a great time – two-legged and four-legged attendees alike. The hundreds of dogs in attendance could rub noses with new acquaintances, have their photo taken, run an obstacle course, have their caricature sketched, grab a sample treat or two, and get their tummies scratched. Their humans could purchase various and sundry baubles for their pets, compare notes on life with dogs, and admire the many breeds and non-breeds present. All-in-all it was a barking good time!
One of the dog-centric co-sponsoring organizations present was LA Animal Services – the people that run the six LA Animal Services Shelter Centers in our city (laanimalservices.com 888-452-7368.) Here you can adopt a shelter pet (www.laanimalservices.com/adopt ), foster a shelter pet (www.laanimalservices.com/foster ), volunteer to spend time with shelter animals (www.laanimalservices.com/volunteer ), and have your pets spayed or neutered (www.spayneuter.com ). If you find a lost pet on the street, contact www.laanimalservices.com/i-found-a-pet for information on where to go from here.
Unfortunately, LA Animal Services is experiencing challenging times with overpopulation of its facilities and a chronic shortage of funds. If you are an animal lover looking for a great cause to help and support, you can do no better than concentrating your attention there!
