Storytelling in the Park at Grand Hope Park

Downtown, perhaps because of our density, is a neighborhood that thrives on community. We can never get enough  opportunities to come together and share.

Justin Teitel, Antonio Perez, and Jason Orkin participate in the first Storytelling in the Park at Grand Park

That's why I knew my event series, Storytelling in the Park, felt right at home in our area.

Storytelling in the Park started with my love of stories. As a writer, I love how a story can capture our focus and our imagination. We all have a favorite story we like to tell. I wanted to give people the opportunity to share moments from their lives. In doing so, we can be entertained simply by connecting with others.

Our free event series has slowly been growing in the downtown area, mainly at our Grand Park space. During our three events so far, we've told stories of inspiration, curiosity, and reflection. I also like to support other people's work, so each story begins with a storyteller introduction and a promo spot opportunity. With city hall as our usual backdrop[JF1] [JN2] , our stories start at sundown with three or four storytellers. Treats and drinks are available. After stories, we end up naturally continuing conversations and learning more about each other.

Community can be hard to find these days, but I think events like Storytelling in the Park helps us pull each other out of our homes, off of our devices, and into the space of real people.

Our next show will be January 10 at 5 pm at Grand Hope Park (Hope between Olympic and 9th). Feel free to bring blankets and chairs. All ages welcome.
