Part 2: What YOU can do: Neighborhood Shared Security Initiative

As mentioned in Part 1 of the neighborhood shared security initiative,  we are collecting data on crimes and nuisance issues in our neighborhood. We will collect data during the pilot phase as well, and then we can assess if the shared security initiative is an asset for the neighborhood.

To obtain an accurate picture, we need you and everyone in South Park to report crimes and nuisance issues – graffiti, harassment, petty theft, trash on sidewalks/streets, obstruction of sidewalks and streets, dangerous behaviors, etc.

Too many residents have said they do not report crimes because (1) nothing will happen, (2) police will not respond, and (3) takes too much time with no results. BUT you need to think about two facts. First, LAPD assigns patrols based on data. Reporting  helps the neighborhood by yielding  more patrols. Second, without good data it is difficult to execute a solution. The data determines the actions needed.

A crime does need to be reported to LAPD. If it is an emergency, call 911. If not an emergency, you can file a report online at https://www.lapdonline.org/file-a-police-report/

A nuisance crime needs to be reported to SPBID. Call 866.560.9346 or dispatch@lasocialdistrict.com

The more we know, the better we can work to solve the problems.
