Celebrate Jewish Holy Holidays at Pico Union Projects

In the original Sinai Temple building built in 1909, Pico Union Projects which abuts the South Park neighborhood and located less than 1 mile west of Crypto.com, will host High Holy Day Services. Craig Taunman, Founder of PUP, writes, as we prepare for the Jewish Holy Days, we return to the essence of the Pico Union Project: unconditional hospitality. Our tradition asks us to love the stranger, yet here, no one is a stranger. Every person who enters belongs.

At a time when so many in our city are singled out for being different, it has been heartening to see our neighbors come together in support of one another. Even in the face of ongoing threats from immigration authorities, our numbers keep growing. Week after week, neighbors share that they feel safe and supported.

That’s the power of community — and of trust built over years.

This holiday season we practice unconditional hospitality by opening our doors to the entire community. You don’t have to be Jewish to celebrate with us — all are welcome! Together we will share the rituals that renew us each year: lighting candles, the call of the shofar, prayers that lift our hearts, and the sweetness of challah and apples dipped in honey. These simple, timeless acts remind us that the new year is not only about beginnings, but about belonging.

We will be joined by extraordinary leaders, including Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz, a leading voice for justice and compassion, along with musicians Shany, Ben, Adam, Valerie, and Isaiah, who will guide us in spirit and song. Their presence, along with yours, will make these Days of Awe sacred and unforgettable.

At Pico Union, art, music, community, and tradition we don’t just open our doors — we open our hearts. May this new year bring blessing, forgiveness, and possibility for us all.

Space is limited — reserve your spot and join us in celebration.
